Vacancy: Director/Associate Director for Energy and Green Tech policy

Job Description 

The EU’s digital transformation agenda is taking center stage as an essential means to address urgent challenges, from the energy crisis to climate change. Our members are at the forefront of developing technologies that both confront these issues directly and work to address their underlying causes. At DIGITALEUROPE, we’re leveraging digital innovation to drive sustainable solutions that reduce emissions, optimize energy consumption, and pave the way for a greener future. 

We are seeking a Director/Associate Director for Energy and Green Tech Policy to strengthen our advocacy on the digitalization of energy and promote the critical role of digital solutions in tackling climate change. The successful candidate will have a strong policy background, excellent communication skills, and a well-established network in energy policy. A familiarity with digital policy as it intersects with energy priorities is highly desirable. The role reports to the Senior Director overseeing multiple policy areas, with support from a Senior Manager and a Policy Officer. 

Over the coming year, DIGITALEUROPE aims to build an Executive Green and Energy Council with top executives from our membership who can interact with Commissioners, Ministers and other important policy stakeholders at the highest level.  

Key Tasks & responsibilities: 

Strategic leadership and direction 

  • Leverage members’ knowledge and positions to reduce regulatory burdens, drive investment in green and clean tech, and promote the enabling potential of digital solutions for energy. Define the key areas for digital transformation within the sector. 
  • Oversee the work of the Green Digital Transition Working Group, ensuring visibility at key events and supporting the senior manager responsible for running the group. This work extends to relevant events and policies on climate change.
  • Oversee a project focused on energy savings in data centres, including the development of a labelling scheme. Provide additional support to the senior manager and policy officer leading the project. 
  • Build and develop high-level relationships with EU institutions, industry associations, and other key stakeholders in energy and climate. 
  • Increase membership engagement within the Green Digital Transition Working Group and coordinate input with other relevant working groups, such as AI, Data, and Cybersecurity, and collaborating with the Projects team where relevant.

 Operational management and collaboration 

  • Ensure the Working Group delivers on developed workplans and meets KPIs, addressing any potential conflicts constructively. 
  • Work closely with the communication and events team to promote and advocate for DIGITALEUROPE’s policy positions externally. 

Policy development and expertise 

  • Develop a deep understanding of policy developments for relevant energy areas, from buildings to grids, and act as a sparring partner to the Director-General for briefings, blogs, keynotes, and articles. 

Stakeholder and membership engagement 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Member Relations Manager to support communication and initiatives aimed at attracting and growing the membership in the area. 
  • Support the team developing a high-level presence in key government-industry conferences, DIGITALEUROPE’s high-level executive vertical councils, and workshops focused on digital issues impacting vertical sectors. 

Key Requirements 

  • Proven leadership ability to drive work and relationships forward. 
  • Strong background and knowledge in energy, green, and/or clean tech industries. 
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills. 
  • Hands-on, delivery-driven attitude, with a commitment to going the extra mile. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; English at a native speaker level. 
  • Good understanding or experience in at least one vertical sector, with awareness of socio-economic issues and related regulations. 
  • Preferably, experience with EU institutions and the Brussels working environment. 
  • Demonstrable expertise in business writing, with the ability to translate complex policy work into accessible communications. 
  • Customer-focused and service-oriented attitude. 
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, able to function effectively in a multicultural team environment. 
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, prioritise, and meet deadlines. 
  • Understanding of, and networking within, the digital technology sector. 
  • Structured approach, with strong analytical and research skills.
