Statement
on
the
AI
Liability
Directive

DIGITALEUROPE’s Director-General Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl said:

“The AI liability directive is simply not needed now that the Product Liability Directive has been expanded to cover software, including AI. We support the many member states who are questioning this proposal. There have been no examples where extra legislation is needed, making it clear that this directive only adds unnecessary complexity.

The easiest burden to remove is one yet to be put in place. Let’s leave this unnecessary law behind us and focus on implementing the AI Act and new Product liability directive in a way that doesn’t harm Europe’s nascent AI industry.’
