Roundtable: Building trust for the European Health Data Space

DIGITALEUROPE will be hosting a high-level closed roundtable on how to encourage confidence in a trustworthy European Health Data Space (EHDS), so that we can unlock the benefits of cross-border health data sharing to empower patients, support healthcare professionals and bolster resilient healthcare systems.

30% of the world’s stored data is health data. But the COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that we lack scale and streamlined processes for cross-border use of health data. This is stalling development of safer and more effective treatments and hindering advancement of trustworthy AI in health. There are still too many examples where important research experiences long delays.

The safety and health of our citizens depends on the implementation of a secure, interoperable and patient-centred health data infrastructure. Acknowledging that questions of trust and ethics still remain, it is essential for us to have this discussion on how we can build that trust and support for the EHDS.

The event will be an interactive discussion, with brief introductory remarks from the invited speakers followed by a longer, moderated discussion. This event is by invitation only and will be held under Chatham House rules.

Attending will be up to 20 senior business executives from global to European companies – across the digital and health ecosystems, including several start-ups – who have joined DIGITALEUROPE’s new Executive Council for Health.

The audience will include MEPs, Council representatives, academics and DIGITALEUROPE members.
