The GDPR story : an early, wide-ranging assessment 4 Jun 2018
The General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 aims to address the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data. It is seen in the EU as an essential step to strengthen citizens' fundamental rights in the digital age and to facilitate business by simplifying rules for companies in the digital single market. A single law will also do away with the current fragmentation and costly administrative burdens.

On 4 November, DIGITALEUROPE published its detailed views on the Geoblocking Regulation. The document covers the issues which DIGITALEUROPE believes policy makers must take into consideration when discussing the proposed legislation. The proposed Regulation will not contribute to the objective of boosting eCommerce in Europe, as it does not remedy any of the barriers traders face when trading online, making cross-border trade even more complex.
