• DIGITALEUROPE speaks at I-Com Conference on Audio Visual Media Services in the Digital Era

3 October 2016On 6 September, DIGITALEUROPE spoke at the ‘AVMSD Refit or Reform? Audio Visual Media Services in the Digital Era’ conference hosted by the Institute for Competitiveness (I-Com) at the European Parliament.

The conference, which was chaired by MEP Silvia Costa (S&D, Italy – Chair of CULT Committee), focused on the key points of the European Commission ‘s proposed revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD).

Speaking on behalf of DIGITALEUROPE, Director Damir Filipovic, stressed that the scope of the updated Directive should continue to focus on the service and remain technology neutral and device agnostic. This is particularly of importance as today’s audiovisual media can be accessed by any connected device including televisions, tablets, game consoles, etc.

Mr Filipovic also noted that the country of origin principle is the cornerstone of the AVMSD and has played a vital role in the creation and functioning of the Single Market. As such, the pre-eminence in content offers and search results (“must be found”) do not need to be forced by legislation.
