• DIGITALEUROPE participates in EP workshop on the revision of the AVMS-D

28 June 2016Damir Filipovic, Director at DIGITALEUROPE, took part in a workshop on the revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMS-D) on 28 June. This exchange of views, which focused on “new services”, child protection, consumer protection, device producer”, was part of a series of workshops organised by the two co-rapporteurs of the file MEPs Petra Kammerevert and Sabine Verheyen.

DIGITALEUROPE believes that the new legislation must reflect the dynamic changes in content delivery and use of media and allow for growth for further developments within a fast changing market.

The AVMS Directive will be an important piece in Europe’s Digital Single Market strategy. Such rules are key to viewers’ empowerment, allowing them to take advantage of the innovations that are transforming screens including the biggest one in most people’s homes: the TV. New technologies already available in Europe give viewers unprecedented control over where and when they watch programs. Diversity and availability of media services have never been greater than they are today. The delivery of services via a broad variety of networks and a multitude of devices have led to an unprecedented choice for viewers on the one hand and various new opportunities on the content delivery side on the other hand. DIGITALEUROPE believes that the AVMS-D proposal can help ensure that the market continues to prosper and that the viewer is in the driving seat.
