• DIGITALEUROPE responds to the AVMS-D consultation

30 September 2015The public consultation on the Audiovisual Media Services Directive closes today (30 September). DIGITALEUROPE is pleased to publish its response, as a next step in the long engagement in the debates on media convergence.

The last years have shown exciting market developments, offering the end-user more choice, competition, new entrants, and innovative services.

Among a set of issues tackled in the consultation, DIGITALEUROPE addressed the issue of the provision of a given content (“must carry”) and its pre-eminence in content offers and search results (“must be found”). In our view, this should not be forced by legislation but rather be left to market forces to deliver an increasingly diverse and vibrant market for audiovisual content and services in Europe. To achieve this goal, the principle of technology neutrality is of key importance.

DIGITALEUROPE will continue to contribute to the discussions taking place over the next year of the REFIT and revision of the AVMS Directive.
